I made a batch of these bad boys over the weekend for my lady friend Danielle's birthday poker party. These bite size treats are so good, and so fresh and natural tasting, that none of us even felt bad devouring the whole batch. So easy and painless, I can't wait to make them again.

mini whisk!!

How to make your own!
Ingredients:
-1 lb large strawberries
-8 oz. cream cheese, softened (can use 1/3 less fat)
-3-4 tbsp HONEY
(I substituted honey for powdered sugar bc I didn't have any, but the honey made it taste sooo much better, and more natural)
-1 tsp vanilla extract
-graham cracker crumbs

Directions:
1. Rinse strawberries and cut around the top of the strawberry. Remove the top and clean out with a paring knife, if necessary (some may already be hollow inside). Prep all strawberries and set aside.
2. In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, honey, and vanilla until creamy. Add cream cheese mix to a piping bag or ziploc with the corner snipped off. Fill strawberries with cheesecake mixture. Once strawberries are filled, dip the top in graham cracker crumbs. If not serving immediately, refrigerate until serving.

Got to celebrate a tea party birthday with my beloved Bevan. We decided to check out the wonderful Royal T, in Culver City. This eclectic gallery/ restaurant is just spilling with cuteness. From the little french maid waitresses, to the giant high tea lists, this spot is worth checking out and grabbing a few nibbles. We decided to grab some exotic teas and the three tier tea snack tray, and the rest the fun took care of itself! I'll definitely be back.

From as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to design (and wear!!) tutus and ballet costumes... I guess it was all of the Ballet I used to dance growing up, or my passion for costumes, but all I know is that you can never use enough tulle.

Just Hangin' Around.

Decided to redo the look of my closet with these super duper easy to make hangers...

(I apologize for the photo quality... darn phone images!)

Step 1: Trace your hanger leave about 1/4" outer edge for sewing.
(on wrong side of fabric)
and cut!

Step 2: Sew up only two sides of the hanger case, and turn inside out.

Step 3: Slide hanger in it's new "skin"

Step 4: Sew up it's remaining side however you would like...

I used a fun zig zag stitch for some, and pushed in seams and did a neat stitch on top for a cleaner look for others.

Step 5: (optional) Use some yarn to wrap around the top of hanger so no ugly metal is showing... use different fun contrasting colors!
Step 6: Have fun with your new closet look! ;)

Christmas this year was so fun and eventful! Every year my family gets together with our closest friends for a traditional Lithuanian Christmas Eve Dinner (Kucios) and we eat our 12 traditional dishes (mainly fish, and other Lithuanian delicacies), drink lot's of wine, play games, and exchange gifts. Some traditions never get old, as time and time again the fun never stops either. Here is a recap of the Eve and Day of Christmas... (not counting the couple holiday parties gone to after... those pictures will come later...) enjoy!

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I decided to make my own pilgrim collar..

here is a DIY of how to make your own...

and some other collars I really like too! :)

I love Collars. Even artificial ones.

Super Easy DIY instructions on how to make your own collars. So cute. I'm thinking of making one in every color... now where did I put my be-dazzler?!

materials:

2 scalloped edged collar pieces cut from white felt or rubber flannel
a single hole punch or leather rotary hole punch
1 yard of white ribbon
a needle and thread
hot glue gun
button

instructions:

Simply cut out the pieces from the pattern and punch a small hole between each scallop using your hole punch.

Thread the button through the two end holds at the wider ends of the pieces (i.e. so the holes at the wider end overlap) and stitch it in place.

Cut the ribbon in half and thread one piece of ribbon through each of the last holes on the smaller end of the collar. Use a dot of glue to fold the ribbon back on itself and hold it in place.

You can now put on the collar by tying the two pieces of ribbon at the back.

Sliding Down

My good friend Morgan had her first solo music project at the R & R Gallery Downtown. I was delighted to be involved by making her a costume, which she would perform in, and be projected on by gorgeous art slides and movie clips.

Starting with a lecture on the neuroscience of love, heartbreak and the search for "true love", she then moved into singing, including a cover and inspiration from Tammy Wynette. Oh yeah, and she plays a bitchin' viola :)

Had the pleasure of having a great quality time vacation visiting with my sister, and she was nice enough to put me up in a hotel for an over night at Hotel California.
Seeing as how I grew up in LA, it was a nice treat for me to pretend to be a little tourist.
Sunsets, wine and bonfire relaxation, then running around the pier was definitely a nice change of pace.
Mike and I even rode tandem bikes. It was quite the funny scene.
At least I think I got over my clumsy fear of bike riding in public...

Thursday Night, I had the honor to partake in the Zooey Magazine launch Red Carpet Event with the lovely, Lan (the founder and boss lady of Skinny Bitch Apparel)!

As we dressed to a tee and sported our favorite SBA outfits, (Vintage AND contemporary), we wanted to show our SBA pride, and had a great time doing so!

Between the plentiful amounts of cake pops, drinks, and swag, we mingled our way amongst the crowds on the roof top of the W hotel's lounge, Dreis.

25th Annual LT Days!

It's that time of year again! Where Los Feliz holds the annual Lithuanian Days Festival (This year being the 25 year anniversary), and being a proud Lithuanian myself, I must brag and say I have been to all 25. Yup, they start us young. Fun weekend filled with the most delicious Lithuanian beer, Krupnikas (honey liquor), polka, singing, dancing, and of course copious amounts of potato based dishes such as potato pancakes, sausages, and cold beet soup. Guess you have to be there to really see how much fun the weekend brings, and to see friends from out of town always brightens up a day.
As us Lugans say, I SVEIKATA!! (cheers)

Bitchin Interview Series: Darija Varnas

Since it’s vintage week here on our bitchin’ lil blog we thought we’d treat you to a inside chat with our very own vintage buyer, Darija Varnas. She’s sweet, she’s sassy, she gets to shop for a living, oh and she models too. Yeah, we’re majorly jealous of her awesome life.

SB Editor: Since you have the kind of life most girls would die for, can you tell us how you jumped into the fashion industry?

Darija: I had previously studied art and art history in college, and began making my own wearable art installations. Then I went to school for fashion design where I really began to pursue my love for costuming and periodic style pieces.

SB Editor: Aside from being innately awesome, how do you strive to exemplify a Skinny Bitch girl?

Darija: I just try to be myself. If you are true to who you are, and keep motivated in general, you will keep moving forward in life and gain strength and confidence along the way.

SB Editor: Motivated, strong, and confident (this girl’s a force to be reckoned with!). You are in every sense a Skinny Bitch, but what makes a vintage piece Skinny Bitch worthy? What do you look for when you shop to stock our vintage line?

Darija: Most of what I own, collect, and look for is unique yet versatile. Pieces you can mix and match with modern clothes or accessories. I look for fun flattering looks that can really enhance an occasion and make it worth remembering. It’s fun to own a piece that shows off character and personality, which can really hold you apart from a modern setting.

SB Editor: With that being said, what is your favorite vintage trend for fall?

Darija: Anything 70’s inspired, especially wide leg pants and sheer maxi dresses.

SB Editor: Girl after my own heart! So what would your go-to outfit consist of?

Darija: I’m pretty simple but I do love to dress up. As long as I’m comfortable, I can almost always be found wearing my tights, boots and some sort of vintage dress. I never leave the house without my blazer jacket, it really adds to all my outfits. And it’s a wonderful “go-to” piece if you want to look nice.

Darija: Oh, I have so many favorite pieces! Can I give a top 3? The Quipid Leopard Ankle Booties, I would wear them with everything. All of the acrylic jewelry, the skyline necklace especially. And of course all of the vintage, the Crochet Batwing Tunic, for obvious reasons…

Darija: Hmm. That’s a difficult one, because I wouldn’t be able to live without the people I love and care about the most… but in a lighter perspective I believe my ultimate weakness would have to obviously be shopping. Without doing that, I wouldn’t be able to provide all of you lovely people with vintage gems, now would I? ;-)

I got to enjoy my Saturday evening with a brief moped ride with the ever so lovely moped lady gang, "The Gaskettes" as they hosted a Homecoming themed ride in Silverlake. I'm so glad I got to join (if even for a short bit!) as a "hanger onner" as I call it, by riding on the back of a moped, but now I'm hooked!

Anyway, I dedicate this posting to the lovely ladies and gentlemen that keep the moped spirit alive in the LA area. Woop woop! You can check out the Gaskettes' blog HERE.

I was so excited, I refused to take my helmet off even in the store, for a brief beer run. ha.

I started watching an unintentional Steve Martin marathon of movies today while recuperating from a fun and eventful weekend. I forgot how great "The Jerk" is, and how favorite this scene and song are.
Plus, Bernadette Peters is so adorable, I just want to eat her up! :)

The Birthday food celebration part of our trip...
I kept getting teased every time I took pictures of food, and my drinks, so I promised I would put them to good use and show them off for you. Just to show how much I enjoyed myself :)

The most delicious creole Southern cooking restaurant "Iva Lee's", full bar, jazz band, and even the cornbread basket appetizer were heart shaped. awwww.
I have always wanted to try Fried Green Tomatoes... and they were scrumptious, especially with a goat cheese filling.

yup, even pizza. but it was the high class kind, with balsamic, fancy cheese and pears.

Blackened Red Snapper over andouille grits and fried okra. This was by far the best fish dish I have ever had.
My night cap for dessert, included a dirty Shirley Temple. myum.

and finished with a chocolate crem brulee. (and again, heart shaped...)

I love food vacations...

Checked in at the oh so adorable Calafia Beach Inn, which has a retro themed beach feel to it. Each room had a different theme (almost like a smaller, beachier, Madonna Inn) and patio BBq.
We got to shoot some of our favorite vintage for an editorial spread, coming soon! I was only allowed to post some of my goofier pics, as the rest are to be a surprise! :) I am so glad we got to work and play on this trip... it was a much needed R and R birthday celebration. xx.

So I am pretty sure when I grow up I would like to look and live like fashion stylist, entrepreneur and body oil producer, Linda Rodin.
I think she has a great sense of style
(I'd like to think we would have very similar fashion interests)...

and her romantic feel of a home is somewhat like my own, filled with doodads and special sparkly things. I can bet my hoardings of antiques and vintage artifacts will only grow in time, so by the time I "grow up" my place might actually look like something you would find in hoarders... or antique road show... ;)
Anywho, I would also one day like to own a poodle.
(or a giant cat...)
oh. and I simply can't wait to go grey.

First and foremost though, I MUST work on getting this toilet. ha!

A Mid Summer Night's Dream.

My Mid Summer Night's Dream Corset, I made for "Dead Summer" show.

The fabric reminded me of a melting popsicle, while I attached moss and dried flowers lovingly one by one to the dramatic skirt wings. I figured even when the most beautiful of things die, they still have an alluring essence to them.

So much of Summer inspired this little gem, especially my best friend Lina Janusas' beautiful swirl of color oil paintings. Life and Death is a common theme in her work as well.

A Bushel of Wasted Wishes.

To my excitement I found a whole bush of dandelions, only to see that the little fuzzy seedlings were all blown away. Thought it still looked pretty though. Influenced my "dead Summer" theme for Saturday's show.

and because Summer is coming to a very slow close (I don't expect the weather to cool off drastically for a while), but I still wanted to get some of my favorite sun dresses in before it's too late. I love the color of this vintage dress. The collar gives it a little oomph, and the drape of it makes it so fun to twist and hop about.

Although everyone is posting for Spring Looks right now, I thought I would post one of my favorite Fall/Winter Look Books first. Seems a tad more appropriate for the season change, that I am so excited to encounter. ( Fall is my favorite season!)
Anywho, this collection tickles me for two reasons. The vintage cuts and inspiration, and the style of the overall shot. It could quite possibly be all the copious amounts of Mad Men I have been re-watching.. (thank you netflix) but I really do love these pieces.
